It’s almost fashionable to be in rehab now. Checking in for drugs and alcohol is fairly understood, but sex? Isn’t that what men do? Obviously, it was what Tiger did. If he had not been legally married would he or his public still consider him an addict?

Soup

Soup. When I was drinking, eating soup or making it was not on my radar. Who was that guy on Seinfeld, always yelling “No soup for you?” I doubt a lot of men ever said to a bartender, “Hey, I think a bowl of lentil soup would go great with my shot of whiskey and beer.”

For Drunkards, Food Is Secondary

The sad fact was that eating was getting in the way of my drinking. But in my first year of sobriety I returned to food with a vengeance. The sweets thing is something you’ll have to deal with eventually, but early on don’t worry about it. Good sobriety requires filling the hole in our soul that drinking inhabited.

On Super Bowl Sunday I Over Ate

I made guacamole, my wife made nachos, and I ate three roast beef, ham and Swiss on rye sandwiches. By halftime it was all gone. After the game I downed a pint of Ben and Jerry’s moo-cow something or other. I’m pretty sure I got my 12,000 calories.
